It seems to me that December arrived quicker than usual this year. Perhaps the long, warm fall simply caught me off guard, but I really wasn’t ready for December yet. So much to do and so little time; Christmas shopping, special service preparation, parties and get-togethers all occupy my time and my thoughts. Where did the time go?
Since the holiday season arrived faster than I wanted it to, it got me thinking about two aspects of my life today. The first involves grandchildren. Yes, Nola and I cherish every moment we spend with all five of our grandkids, and this Christmas will be a very special one in the Ginter household. The presence of grandchildren means more giving will be required. Their presence requires the giving of gifts and presents, the giving of time and attention, and most of all, the giving of love.
The second point I want to mention is that time is fleeting. As I mentioned earlier, it seemed to me that December arrived quicker than normal this year, and while that is not exactly true, it seemed to arrive quicker because I was not prepared. I was so caught up in things around me (church, work & family) that I failed to see the signs around me that time was slipping by.
During this holiday season, my hope and prayer for you is to heed these two important aspects in your own lives. First, take notice of those around you who are important to you. You have control over the priorities of your life…we always seem to find the time to spend doing the things we love, even when our lives are cluttered and busy. Find the time to spend quality time with the ones you love. The greatest gift you have to give is of yourself.
Second, time is slipping away for all of us. Perhaps now would be a good time to slow down and take inventory of our priorities, to stop and smell the roses so to speak. Some opportunities will pass us by, and we may miss some of God’s richest blessings because we were too busy to notice His love. May God richly bless you this Christmas.
Merry Christmas to you and yours!
In His Service,
Pastor Gary Ginter
