Well, it is June 2020, and I’m asking myself, where did March, April and May disappear to? The events of the last three months have not only caught the entire world by surprise, but have filled our hearts and our heads with questions we may never completely understand. Coronavirus, Covid-19, Pandemic… all new words we have added to our vocabulary. And with this new reality comes closures, postponements, and frustration.
Here at Kingsley UMC we feel very fortunate that we have been able to video and broadcast our Sunday worship services. While preaching to an empty sanctuary is somewhat uncomfortable, I must admit that we have been reaching far beyond our regular congregation with out online broadcasts. I have heard from people in North Carolina, Arizona, and California who have had the opportunity to view our broadcasts, and I realize that even though the church doors have been closed, the church in reality is all around us… in our homes, viewed on smart phones, computers and tablets.
As of the first of June, our church doors are once again open, although with restrictions and precautions. The general feelings from those I’ve spoken with is that it is wonderful to be back in church, back amongst friends and family, back in the pews where we can come together and worship God together.
The big question now is, where do we go from here? Is this the new normal everyone talks about? Will the pandemic continue to threaten and disrupt our lives and livelihood? And how will all of this impact the church? I must honestly say, I don’t know. But, this I do know… God is still in control. As Christians we must put our faith, our trust, our hope in Him and Him alone. Where He leads us, we will follow. Meanwhile, keep praying! God is not done with us yet!
