August Church Newsletter/Calendar

Kingsley Newsletter August 2016

I realize the calendar tells me it’s August, but I have to ask myself…where did my summer go? I remember making lots of plans for my summer, including setting aside time to ride my motorcycle. But somewhere between the lack of rain, the grandchildren, and all the activities at church, my summer got away from me.

I ran across a joke the other day that seemed to sum up my thoughts on this fleeting summer. It went something like this: “A minister waited in line to have his car filled with gas just before a long holiday weekend. The attendant worked quickly, but there were many cars ahead of him. Finally, the attendant motioned him toward a vacant pump. ‘Reverend,’ said the young man, ‘I’m sorry about the delay. It seems as if everyone waits until the last minute to get ready for a long trip.’ The minister chuckled, ‘I know what you mean. It’s the same in my business”.

We often have the best intentions. We schedule and plan for the events we really want to do. Vacations, weekends at the lake, special summer events all take priority when we plan our activities. But we sometimes fail to take into consideration unforeseen circumstances. Take the events from last spring for instance. Many people, including farmers, did not anticipate the heavy rains that tormented northwest Ohio for many weeks. Schedules were thrown out and many planned activities were cancelled because of the extremely wet weather. Who knew?

As you look ahead at the events of your life, what have you failed to anticipate? How many of us saw the lower gas prices coming, or the downturn in the economy? Who knew that cancer would invade our lives or that loved ones would face difficult times? Who plans for catastrophes and disasters?

God never promised any of us a smooth passage through life. He only promises a smooth landing with hope for all eternity. No matter what life throws at us, God is there, beside us, encouraging us, carrying us if need be. You can plan on his love and guidance through this life and on into the next.

In His Service,

Pastor Gary Ginter
